TLDR Hox proteins help maintain keratinocyte identity by regulating miRNA expression.
The study explores the molecular mechanisms that define the cellular identity of keratinocytes and corneal epithelial cells, focusing on the Hox/Gtl2-Dio3 miRNA axis. It identifies 198 differentially expressed miRNAs between these cell types, with 132 miRNAs upregulated in keratinocytes and 66 in corneal epithelial cells. The research suggests that Hox proteins, which are largely silenced in corneal epithelial cells, play a crucial role in maintaining keratinocyte identity by regulating miRNA expression in the Gtl2-Dio3 region. These miRNAs influence key signaling pathways and transcription factors, such as Pax6, Otx2, and Foxc1, which are essential for corneal epithelial cells. The findings enhance understanding of the regulatory networks involved in corneal epithelial development and suggest potential therapeutic strategies for transdifferentiation.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

community Minoxidil Sulfate makes everyone a responder

Minoxidil sulfate is more effective than regular minoxidil, especially for those with low sulfotransferase levels or scalp sensitivity, but it is unstable unless delivered in a liposomal format. Combining minoxidil with tretinoin can enhance effectiveness, and stopping minoxidil use can lead to rapid hair loss.

community AGA responded to steroid shots? Biopsy wrong? Please help!

in Female  2 upvotes 1 year ago
A woman with AGA is using spironolactone, dutasteride, finasteride, oral minoxidil, bicalutamide, and anti-androgenic birth control but still experiences worsening hair loss. Steroid shots temporarily stop her hair shedding, leading her to question her biopsy results.

community Is Vitamin D the cause of my baldness or slow regrowth?

in Is this regrowth?  1 upvotes 1 week ago
The conversation discusses hair loss treatments, including oral finasteride, topical minoxidil, and microneedling, and the potential impact of Vitamin D and folic acid deficiencies on hair regrowth. It suggests that while male pattern baldness is the primary cause, addressing vitamin deficiencies may aid in improving regrowth.
