TLDR Some natural ingredients like onion juice, rosemary oil, and pumpkin seed oil may help with hair growth and reducing hair loss.
In 2020, a systematic review explored the effectiveness of natural ingredients in treating various types of alopecia, with a focus on Central Centrifugal Cicatricial Alopecia (CCCA). The review found that onion juice, rosemary oil, and pumpkin seed oil showed potential in promoting hair growth and reducing hair loss. Onion juice was effective in treating alopecia areata, while rosemary oil was comparable to minoxidil in treating androgenetic alopecia. Pumpkin seed oil also showed potential in treating androgenetic alopecia. Other natural ingredients such as azelaic acid, garlic gel, and olive oil also showed efficacy in treating alopecia areata and psoriatic alopecia. Despite these promising results, the review emphasized the need for more rigorous clinical trials, especially for CCCA.
