TLDR Women with PCOS may have a higher risk of respiratory and ear infections due to slower nasal mucociliary clearance.
The study investigated the nasal mucociliary clearance time (NMCT) in 50 women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and compared it with 30 control subjects. Results showed that the mean NMCT was significantly longer in the PCOS group (10.45±2.88 minutes) than in the control group (6.92±1.78 minutes). Additionally, there was a significant positive correlation between NMCT and the duration of PCOS, serum total testosterone levels, and the ratio of luteinizing hormone to follicle-stimulating hormone. The findings indicate that women with PCOS may have an increased risk of respiratory tract and middle ear infections due to the altered NMCT. The study highlights the need for clinicians to be aware of the respiratory complications that can accompany PCOS.

A 30-year-old female with PCOS and male pattern baldness is frustrated with her endocrinologist's recommendation of only Spironolactone and minoxidil, feeling that dutasteride, finasteride, and progesterone would be more effective. Other users suggest various online sources for treatments, warn against self-medicating due to potential risks, and recommend seeking a specialized endocrinologist or considering additional treatments like Inositol, Berberine, and dermaneedling.
