TLDR Nanocarriers can improve antioxidant delivery to the skin but face safety and production challenges.
The review explores the potential of nanocarrier systems, such as nanoemulsions, liposomes, solid lipid nanoparticles, nanostructured lipid carriers, and polymeric nanoparticles, in delivering topical antioxidants to the skin. These systems enhance antioxidant penetration, stability, and efficacy, addressing oxidative stress and skin aging. They improve solubility, protect antioxidants from degradation, and offer controlled release, making them effective in maintaining skin health by balancing reactive oxygen species (ROS) and antioxidant levels. Despite their promise, challenges like safety concerns, drug expulsion, and production difficulties remain, highlighting the need for further research and development in this field.
