TLDR Inflammation may cause nail issues in Cronkhite–Canada Syndrome.
This case report described the first documented instance of nail matrix pathology in a patient with Cronkhite–Canada Syndrome (CCS), a condition characterized by gastrointestinal polyposis and a triad of cutaneous abnormalities including nail dystrophy, alopecia, and hyperpigmentation. The histologic evaluation of the nail matrix revealed matrix hypergranulosis, a finding typically associated with inflammatory nail diseases. This suggests that an inflammatory process might play a significant role in the pathogenesis of CCS.
