The study found that Chinese women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) had a high prevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), primarily mild to moderate in severity. This prevalence was not significantly linked to hyperandrogenism but increased notably with higher body mass index (BMI). Insulin resistance and metabolic abnormalities were identified as key factors associated with NAFLD. The study recommended that Chinese women with a BMI of 24 kg/m² or higher should be screened for NAFLD.
