TLDR Mupirocin nanoparticle-loaded hydrogel is safe and effective for healing burn wounds.
The study developed a mupirocin nanoparticle-loaded hydrogel (MLH) and evaluated its safety and biocompatibility for wound healing in rat models. MLH showed no toxicity to human epidermal keratinocytes and fibroblast cells and effectively inhibited inflammatory responses in macrophage-like cells. In rat burn wounds, MLH and blank hydrogel demonstrated superior healing compared to mupirocin ointment, evidenced by better wound contraction, reduced secretion, new blood vessel formation, and promotion of hair follicle cells. MLH also resulted in less necrosis, lower inflammation, and reduced macrophage presence. The study concluded that MLH was safe and effective for burn wound healing, suggesting its potential for clinical trials.
