Review of Multivitamin-Mineral and Herbal Supplement Use in Alopecia Areata: A Case Report

    Marina Astrid Rumawas, Ferina Angelia
TLDR There is not enough evidence to recommend multivitamin-mineral supplements and herbal treatments for alopecia areata.
This case report examines the use of multivitamin-mineral supplements and herbal treatments in an 18-year-old male patient with alopecia areata, diagnosed 3 years prior. Despite various treatments, including intralesional corticosteroid injections, topical therapies, diode laser, 2% topical minoxidil, oral methisoprinol, oral antivirals, and oral multivitamin-mineral supplements, there is insufficient scientific evidence to support definitive clinical recommendations for micronutrient and herbal use in alopecia areata. Clinicians should educate patients on the use of supplements and herbal treatments for this condition.
