TLDR Moxibustion may help improve ovarian function by changing androgen levels.
The study "Moxibustion improves ovarian function based on the regulation of the androgen balance" found that moxibustion treatment in a rat model of diminished ovarian reserve (DOR) significantly improved ovarian function by regulating androgen levels. Thirty-two rats were divided into four groups and treated with moxibustion daily for 20 days. Results showed increased AMH and DHT levels, decreased FSH, T, and DHEA levels, and increased AR content in the ovary. Moxibustion reduced atretic follicles, increased mature follicular cells, and normalized disrupted serum levels of AMH, FSH, and E2. The study suggests moxibustion could be a beneficial non-pharmacological treatment for ovarian dysfunction, with different effects observed between pre-disease and early-disease interventions. Further research is needed to determine optimal treatment duration and timing.
