A large number of miRNAs were involved in epidermis and hair follicle development, pigmentation, and cyclical hair follicle development. These miRNAs formed a comprehensive, multi-level network system through interactions with signal pathways and regulatory factors. The review summarized progress on miRNAs' roles in controlling epidermal homeostasis and hair follicle development, contributing to gene regulatory network research, disease treatment, and molecular breeding.
