TLDR Minoxidil did not significantly affect epilepsy in rats.
This study investigated the effects of minoxidil, a Kir6.1 ion channel opener, on epilepsy using a penicillin-induced model in 42 male Wistar rats divided into six groups. The results showed that minoxidil administration did not have significant electrophysiological or histopathological effects on epilepsy. Although spike-wave frequency and amplitude were higher in the epilepsy group compared to control, DMSO, and Minox groups, histopathological differences were not statistically significant. The study concludes that further research with larger sample sizes is needed for more definitive evidence.
