TLDR Minoxidil can help with hair loss, but its effectiveness depends on the patient and formulation.
Topical minoxidil showed promise in treating male-pattern alopecia and alopecia areata, with clinical trials indicating that patient selection and drug formulation were crucial for effectiveness. Side effects were mainly cutaneous reactions, observed in patients without hypertension or cardiovascular disease. The exact mechanism of hair regrowth was not fully understood but was thought to involve a synergistic effect on various cell types.
