TLDR Minoxidil can help with hair loss, but its effectiveness depends on the patient and formulation.
Topical minoxidil showed promise in treating male-pattern alopecia and alopecia areata, with clinical trials indicating that patient selection and drug formulation were crucial for maximizing efficacy. Side effects were mainly cutaneous reactions, observed in patients without hypertension or cardiovascular disease. The exact mechanism of hair regrowth induced by minoxidil was not fully understood, but it was suggested to involve a synergistic effect on various cell types.
