TLDR Improved mink skin processing can weaken hair attachment.
The study analyzed the processing histology of mink skin to optimize processing techniques and improve product quality. It examined mink skin samples through various stages, including soaking, degreasing, bating, pickling, and tanning, using bio-optical microscopy and staining methods. The research found that mink hair follicles were irregularly distributed, often surrounded by fat glands. Degreasing reduced fat cells, and bating and pickling loosened collagen fibers, while tanning made them more orderly. These processes affected hair follicle openings, potentially reducing the bond between hair and follicles.
