TLDR Many sheep and goats in Sana’a, Yemen, lack essential minerals and need supplements for better health.
This study assessed mineral deficiencies in 200 grazing sheep and goats in Sana’a Governorate, Yemen, revealing that 160 animals showed signs of deficiency, such as alopecia and lethargy, with altered hematological and biochemical parameters. Deficient animals had lower levels of essential minerals like Ca, P, Mg, Cu, Fe, and Zn, and decreased Hb, PCV, RBC, and WBC counts. The study recommends mineral supplementation to improve health and productivity, and suggests further research on the long-term effects of such interventions.
