Studies on Nutritional Deficiency in Cows in El-Behera Province

    TLDR Cows in El-Behera have nutritional deficiencies causing health issues like anemia and poor reproduction.
    The study conducted in autumn 2018 in El-Behera province involved 38 mixed breed cows, aged 3-7 years, suffering from alopecia (34%), ill-thrift (50%), and infertility (16%), alongside 7 healthy cows. Clinical and laboratory examinations revealed symptoms such as poor appetite, reduced milk production, and pale conjunctival mucous membranes. Additional observations included rough coats, hair discoloration, decreased ruminal motility, and reproductive issues. Fecal analysis showed nematode (83%), Fasciola (15%), and Paramphistoma (2%) eggs. Biochemical tests indicated significant deficiencies in copper, zinc, calcium, inorganic phosphorus, and magnesium, while hematological studies revealed moderate microcytic, hypochromic anemia with decreased RBCs, Hb, PCV, MCV, and MCH in affected cows.
