TLDR Women with pattern hair loss often have higher blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure, and waist size, suggesting a link between hair loss and metabolic syndrome.
This study investigated the relationship between female pattern hair loss (FPHL) and metabolic syndrome (MetS) in women. The study included 30 women with FPHL and 30 healthy women as controls. The results showed that women with FPHL had higher levels of fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol compared to the control group. They also had higher systolic and diastolic blood pressure and waist circumference. There was a significant association between MetS and the severity of FPHL. The study concluded that there is a significant relationship between MetS variables and FPHL, especially waist circumference and hypertension. Women with FPHL, especially those with increased waist circumference or hypertension, should be regularly screened for MetS criteria to receive early management.
