TLDR There's a significant link between severe hair loss and metabolic syndrome in Saudi Arabia, suggesting early health checks could prevent future issues.
The case-control study conducted in Saudi Arabia with 319 participants, 182 of whom were diagnosed with Androgenic Alopecia (AGA), found a significant association between AGA and Metabolic Syndrome (MS). Specifically, 26.4% of AGA patients and 10.2% of controls were found to have MS. The prevalence of MS also increased with the severity of AGA, though this was not statistically significant. The study suggests that early screening for MS in AGA patients could lead to early lifestyle changes and potentially prevent future complications. However, the study was limited by the lack of waist circumference data and a predominance of female participants.
