TLDR A man developed autoimmune issues after a transplant, improved with treatment, but died from leukemia relapse.
A 57-year-old Caucasian man developed nephrotic syndrome and a lupus-like syndrome after hematopoietic cell transplantation, despite initial improvement with cyclosporin and steroids, he eventually died from leukemia relapse. The case highlighted that chronic graft-versus-host disease can mimic systemic lupus erythematosus, presenting with symptoms like pancytopenia, hair loss, and positive anti-DNA antibodies, emphasizing the complexity of managing nephrotic syndrome post-transplantation while balancing immunosuppression and graft versus leukemia effect.
