TLDR Upadacitinib improved both Crohn's ileitis and alopecia universalis in a patient.
This document discusses a case study of a 23-year-old man with both Crohn's ileitis and alopecia universalis, highlighting the successful use of the JAK1 inhibitor upadacitinib as a treatment. The patient, who had a history of neonatal ileal atresia and chronic diarrhea, showed significant improvement in both conditions after starting upadacitinib. Within a month, hair regrowth was observed, and Crohn's disease symptoms improved, with healing of ileal ulcerations. This case underscores the potential of upadacitinib as a therapeutic option for patients with concurrent Crohn's disease and alopecia areata, suggesting a shared autoimmune pathway and the importance of screening for inflammatory bowel disease in patients with alopecia areata.
