TLDR Magnesium supplements improved quality of life for women with polycystic ovary syndrome, but didn't help with acne, hair loss, or abnormal bleeding.
A randomized clinical trial involving 64 women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) was conducted to examine the effects of magnesium supplementation on abnormal uterine bleeding, alopecia, quality of life, and acne. The participants were divided into two groups: a magnesium group (32 participants) and a placebo group (32 participants), and the trial lasted for 10 weeks. The results showed that magnesium supplementation significantly improved various components of quality of life. However, no significant effect was observed on acne, alopecia, and abnormal uterine bleeding. Therefore, the study concluded that magnesium supplementation in women with PCOS had a significant positive effect on improving total quality of life, but not on treating acne or alopecia.
