TLDR Dermal lymphatic vessels help hair growth by affecting hair cycle phases.
The study revealed that dermal lymphatic vessels (LVs) played a significant role in promoting hair follicle growth by influencing the hair cycle in mice. Increased LV density, as seen in K14-VEGF-C transgenic mice, was linked to an earlier onset and prolongation of the anagen growth phase, with activated Wnt signaling in hair follicle stem cells. Conversely, the absence of cutaneous lymphatic vessels in K14-sVEGFR3 transgenic mice led to accelerated progression to the catagen regression phase. VEGF-C protein injections promoted anagen hair growth, and in vitro studies showed that conditioned media from lymphatic endothelial cells (LECs) enhanced human dermal papilla cell (DPC) growth. The BMP antagonist Sostdc1 was identified as a mediator of LEC effects on DPCs, suggesting new therapeutic strategies for hair loss conditions.
