TLDR Low-dose Buserelin effectively reduces hirsutism with minimal side effects.
The study evaluated the efficacy of low-dose GnRH analogue (Buserelin) in treating hirsutism in eight women with subclinical polycystic ovary syndrome. Administered as a nasal spray, Buserelin effectively reduced gonadal steroid secretion, as evidenced by decreased levels of plasma testosterone, androstenedione, and androstanediol after one month. The hirsutism score significantly improved from 24 ± 5 to 16.8 ± 5.1 over six months of treatment, with effects persisting up to six months post-treatment. The treatment was well-tolerated with no significant side effects, suggesting Buserelin as a viable option for non-adrenal hirsutism when other therapies are unsuitable.
