TLDR Higher Lnk protein levels in ovaries may lead to insulin resistance in women with PCOS.
The study conducted between June 2011 and February 2012 with 37 women undergoing laparoscopic surgery aimed to explore the role of the Lnk protein in insulin resistance in PCOS patients. It was found that PCOS patients with insulin resistance had higher Lnk expression in ovarian tissues than normal controls and PCOS patients without insulin resistance. The study, which included a small sample size of 12 participants for correlation analysis, showed a significant positive correlation between Lnk mRNA levels and insulin resistance indicators. Lnk overexpression was shown to inhibit insulin signaling pathways by reducing phosphorylation of insulin receptor, Akt, and ERK1/2, and increasing phosphorylation of IRS1 serine. These findings suggest that Lnk overexpression may contribute to insulin resistance in PCOS, indicating its potential as a target for treatment, despite the study's limitations, including the use of outdated diagnostic criteria for PCOS.
