This study assessed 36 pediatric patients with linear alopecia using reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) and dermoscopy to improve differential diagnosis of conditions like alopecia areata (AA), trichotillomania (TM), nevus sebaceous (NS), and linear scleroderma en coup de sabre (LSCS). RCM and dermoscopy provided distinct diagnostic features for each condition, such as decreased hair follicle density in AA, normal follicular openings in TM, petal-like structures in NS, and missing dermal papillary rings in LSCS. The study concludes that combining RCM with dermoscopy enhances noninvasive diagnosis, aiding in early and accurate treatment planning for pediatric alopecia.
