TLDR Recognizing and treating oral lichen sclerosus is important, but treatment guidelines are lacking.
This case report and literature review discuss the rare occurrence and diagnostic challenges of oral lichen sclerosus (LS) on the labial mucosa, illustrated by a 58-year-old female patient with a whitish plaque on her lower lip. Diagnosis was confirmed through a punch biopsy, and treatment with topical and intralesional corticosteroids improved her condition within 2 months. The report stresses the importance of histopathological examination for accurate diagnosis due to the condition's rarity and potential for misdiagnosis. Despite the absence of standard treatment guidelines, corticosteroids are commonly used, and early recognition is vital for effective management. The study aims to enhance understanding of the clinical features and management challenges of labial mucosa LS.
