    A punch biopsy is a medical procedure used to remove a small, circular section of tissue from the skin for examination. This is done using a sharp, hollow instrument called a punch, which is rotated into the skin to extract a core of tissue. It is commonly used to diagnose skin conditions, including alopecia, by allowing for microscopic analysis of the sampled tissue.
