TLDR The method accurately measures seven androgens in plasma and shows different hormone levels in females with acne and obesity.
The study successfully established and validated a liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method to measure seven androgens in human plasma, including testosterone and dihydrotestosterone, with high precision and recovery rates. It involved 73 healthy volunteers, 25 females with acne, and 33 obese females. The findings indicated that females with acne had elevated levels of dihydrotestosterone, androstenedione, and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate, while obese females had higher testosterone and androstenedione but lower dihydrotestosterone levels. This method was significant for clinical applications in measuring androgen levels and provided insights into their distribution and potential roles in conditions like acne and obesity.
