TLDR Korean Red Ginseng may help prevent hair loss from chemotherapy.
The study evaluated the protective effects of Korean Red Ginseng (KRG) on chemotherapy-induced alopecia (CIA) using an in vitro human hair follicle organ culture model. Results showed that pretreatment with KRG protected against hair growth inhibition and premature catagen development induced by the chemotherapy agent 4-HC. KRG also suppressed the inhibition of matrix keratinocyte proliferation and the stimulation of their apoptosis, and it restored the expression of P53 and Bax/Bcl2. These findings suggested that KRG could be beneficial in protecting against CIA in patients undergoing chemotherapy.
