TLDR Basal cell carcinoma is more common than squamous cell carcinoma on the scalp, especially along the part line.
A retrospective review of 302 cases of keratinocyte carcinomas in non-alopecic women revealed that basal cell carcinoma was more prevalent than squamous cell carcinoma (231 vs. 71 cases). The study found that both types of carcinomas were more likely to occur within the part line on the scalp, with statistical significance (p = 0.036). There was also an observed, though not statistically significant, increased risk of carcinomas on the upper third of the forehead (p = 0.165). These findings suggest that the part line on the scalp is a common site for keratinocyte carcinomas, which can inform dermatologists in clinical exams and patient counseling on sun protection.
