TLDR Keratin pretreatment improves the quality of damaged hair during perming.
The study explored the impact of keratin pretreatment on damaged hair during the perming process. The keratin solution was applied at concentrations of 50% and 100%. Measurements of tensile strength, methylene blue absorbance, and gloss were taken, and hair condition was assessed using scanning electron microscopy. Results indicated that keratin treatment improved tensile strength and gloss, while decreasing absorbance, suggesting improved hair quality. The microscopy analysis confirmed better cuticle condition compared to the control group. Overall, the application of a keratin solution had a positive effect on damaged hair.
