TLDR Trichoscopy helps tell apart hair loss due to alopecia areata from trichotillomania in eyebrows.
The study presented five cases of isolated eyebrow hair loss to highlight the trichoscopic features distinguishing alopecia areata (AA) and trichotillomania (TTM). Patients with AA exhibited yellow dots, vellus hairs, anisotrichosis, and empty follicular openings, while those with TTM showed split hairs, question mark hairs, broken hairs, flame hairs, and hemorrhagic areas. Trichoscopy proved to be a valuable tool in differentiating between AA and TTM on the eyebrows. The study emphasizes the importance of recognizing these features for accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
