TLDR Low iron and vitamin D are common in young females with hair loss.
The study conducted on 100 females with chronic telogen effluvium (CTE) found that low levels of serum ferritin and vitamin D were prevalent in approximately two-thirds of the participants, while vitamin B12 deficiency was observed in one-third of the cases. The mean ferritin level was 13.59 ng/dL, with 65% of patients having levels below the normal range. Vitamin D deficiency was noted in 98% of the patients, whereas vitamin B12 levels were low in 36% of the participants. These findings suggest a significant association between deficiencies in these nutrients and chronic telogen effluvium in young females.
