    The study investigated the role of the 18 kDa translocator protein (TSPO) in anxiety and depression by overexpressing TSPO in the hippocampal dentate gyrus of mice. Results showed that TSPO overexpression led to increased TSPO expression and allopregnanolone concentration, resulting in significant anxiolytic and antidepressant-like effects. These effects were blocked by the TSPO antagonist PK11195 and the 5α-reductase inhibitor finasteride, indicating that the effects were partially mediated by allopregnanolone biosynthesis. The findings suggested that TSPO could be a potential therapeutic target for anxiety and depression.
