TLDR Platelet-rich plasma is a safe and effective treatment for oral lichen planus.
Oral lichen planus (OLP), an inflammatory disease affecting the oral mucosa, primarily impacts middle-aged women and, to a lesser extent, children. It can manifest in various forms, including ulcerative, erosive, hyperkeratotic, and reticular, causing discomfort, a burning sensation, pain, and quality of life changes. Traditional treatment methods for OLP often yield unsatisfactory results and high recurrence rates. However, the use of intralesional platelet-rich plasma, which contains a high concentration of growth factors that promote healing, has been found to be a safe and effective treatment modality for OLP.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.
