TLDR A rare scalp tumor was removed from a 49-year-old woman, with a good outlook if benign but needing careful monitoring if malignant.
A 49-year-old woman was diagnosed with a Proliferating Trichilemmal Tumor (PTT) on her scalp, a rare skin neoplasm originating from hair follicle cells. The tumor, which had been growing for 5 years, was surgically excised. PTT is generally benign but can exhibit malignant characteristics, necessitating thorough clinical, dermatoscopic, radiological, and histopathological evaluation for accurate diagnosis. Treatment typically involves complete surgical excision, with a good prognosis for low-grade lesions. However, high-grade or malignant cases require more aggressive treatment and close monitoring due to the risk of recurrence and metastasis.
