TLDR Keratinocytes grew and migrated into hair follicle areas but disappeared after 15-20 days.
The study investigated the behavior of interfollicular epidermis keratinocytes in an autotransplantation experiment using a collagen dermis framework prepared from a skin flap. The interfollicular epidermis was detached and transferred to the collagen framework, which was placed on a full-thickness skin defect. It was found that keratinocytes not only developed in this environment but also migrated into hair follicle bursas, forming follicular-like structures. These structures exhibited differentiation typical of interfollicular epidermis. However, despite some retention of proliferative ability, the ingrowth of cells disappeared by the 15th to 20th day post-transplantation.
