TLDR A legally valid consent form for PRP injections was created to improve communication and protect against lawsuits.
The study developed a standardized, evidence-based informed consent form for platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections to address the lack of a consistent protocol. By reviewing literature and interviewing orthopaedic surgeons and patients, the researchers created a form with 17 items, validated by legal experts, and successfully administered it to 147 patients. This form ensures patients are informed about risks, benefits, and alternatives, improving communication and legal protection for surgeons. It emphasizes the need for procedure-specific consent forms and acknowledges the evolving evidence for PRP's effectiveness. Although designed for use in India, it can be adapted for other countries.
