TLDR Microneedling with platelet-rich plasma can cause temporary, painful lymph node swelling in some patients.
The authors report on two female patients who developed recurring transient lymphadenopathy (LAP) after microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for androgenetic alopecia (AGA). The LAPs arose after the first or second session and recurred in the same pattern at every following treatment session. The authors suggest that the underlying cause of these acute, painful, yet transient LAPs occurring in a small number of patients after microneedling with PRP needs to be clarified. The role of infection seems unlikely in these cases due to rapid spontaneous regression.
