TLDR Pericardiocentesis and immunosuppressants effectively treat cardiac tamponade in pregnant women with SLE.
This case report details a 33-year-old pregnant Indonesian woman with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) who developed cardiac tamponade, presenting with symptoms such as shortness of breath, swollen legs, hair loss, and joint pain. She was initially treated with ultrasound-guided pericardiocentesis and methylprednisolone, leading to temporary improvement. However, she experienced a recurrence of cardiac tamponade but declined further hospital treatment. The report underscores the prevalence of cardiac tamponade during SLE flares in pregnancy and the critical role of pericardiocentesis and immunosuppressant therapy in its management.
