    The study investigated the anti-inflammatory effects of indomethacin (IND) and its calcium salt (IND-Ca) ointments on rats with carrageenin-induced paw edema and adjuvant arthritis. Both 1% and 0.5% IND and IND-Ca ointments applied to the skin showed potent inhibitory effects on inflammation, comparable to oral doses of IND. The ointments caused only slight irritation on rabbit skin, with IND-Ca showing negligible irritancy. However, IND solution prevented hair growth at application sites temporarily. The findings suggested that IND-Ca ointment was suitable for clinical use due to its effective anti-inflammatory properties and minimal skin irritation.
