Semecarpus anacardium Linn., known as 'Ballataka' or 'Bhilwa', has been traditionally used in medicine for various ailments. Its nuts contain biologically active compounds like biflavonoids, phenolic compounds, bhilawanols, minerals, vitamins, and amino acids. These compounds exhibit medicinal properties such as antiatherogenic, antiinflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-reproductive, CNS stimulant, hypoglycemic, anticarcinogenic, and hair growth-promoting activities. The review summarized the diverse medicinal activities of the plant.
