TLDR Semecarpus anacardium leaf extract fights breast cancer and extends survival in mice.
The study demonstrated that the ethyl acetate extract from the leaves of Semecarpus anacardium Linn. exhibited significant anticancer activity. The extract induced cytotoxicity in various cancer cell lines, particularly in MCF-7 cells with an IC50 of 0.57 µg/ml, while non-malignant cells were relatively unaffected. The extract caused apoptosis, cell cycle arrest at the G1 phase, and inhibited cancer cell migration. In vivo, oral administration of the extract suppressed tumor growth and prolonged the survival of mice bearing ehrlich ascites carcinoma cells. These findings suggested that the leaf extract of S. anacardium has potential for future anticancer drug development.
