TLDR Betamethasone dipropionate reduced skin thickness, fish oil increased it, and combined treatment had no significant effect.
The study investigated the effects of fish oil (FO), betamethasone dipropionate (BD), and salicylic acid (SA) on epidermal thickness in GsdmA3Dfl/+ mice using optical coherence tomography (OCT) and H&E staining. BD significantly reduced epidermal thickness by 39%, while FO increased it by 105%. The combined treatment of BD and FO reduced thickness but less effectively than BD alone. The control group showed no significant changes. The findings suggested that FO's unexpected increase in epidermal thickness might be due to its inability to reverse hyperproliferation despite its anti-inflammatory properties. The study validated OCT as a non-invasive alternative to H&E staining for measuring skin thickness.
