The system was also tested with the chemotherapeutic drug doxorubicin, which is known to cause alopecia, and it successfully inhibited hair growth in the cultures. This suggests that the histoculture system can be used to study hair growth regulation and to test hair growth stimulators and inhibitors. The work was supported by a National Cancer Institute grant.
