In vitro Hair Growth Promoting Effects of Naringenin and Hesperetin on Human Dermal Papilla Cells and Keratinocytes
January 2017
in “Journal of Dermatology and Venereology”
TLDR Naringenin and Hesperetin may help hair grow and protect hair cells from damage.
In 2017, a study was conducted to examine the effects of Naringenin and Hesperetin, two flavonoids, on hair growth. The research found that these compounds significantly increased the proliferation of dermal papilla cells and keratinocytes, both crucial for hair growth. They also protected these cells from oxidative damage caused by hydrogen peroxide. Furthermore, these compounds boosted the secretion of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor, a protein that promotes hair growth. These findings suggested that Naringenin and Hesperetin could potentially be used as natural hair growth promoters. However, the researchers noted that more studies were needed to fully understand these compounds' mechanisms and confirm their hair growth promoting properties.
