TLDR Berberine may be a safe and effective treatment for male pattern baldness.
The study investigates berberine as a potential treatment for androgenetic alopecia through in silico analysis. Berberine was found to effectively bind to 5α-reductase and TGF-β2, key proteins involved in hair loss, with docking scores of -8.4 and -7.1, respectively, outperforming minoxidil. The compound adheres to Lipinski's rule of five and shows favorable ADMET properties, indicating good drug-likeness and minimal toxicity risk. The findings suggest that berberine could be a promising therapeutic agent for male pattern baldness by regulating TGF-β2 and 5α-reductase activity.
