TLDR VLDL could be an early warning sign for male pattern baldness.
The study "Identification of VLDL as a biomarker for prewarning of androgenic alopecia" used Mendelian randomization and Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) datasets from the UK Biobank and FinnGen to explore the relationship between androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and dyslipidemia. The study found that Valine and three very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) subfractions (M_VLDL_C, M_VLDL_P, S_VLDL_FC) are positively associated with AGA risk. However, AGA had no effect on these four circulating metabolites. The study suggests that VLDL may contribute to the development of AGA by altering the vasculature, but further research is needed. The study was confined to patients of European origin, and additional validation in other populations is required.
