Study on the Hypoglycemic Effect of Shallot Extract (Allium Ascalonicum L., Alliaceae) on Alloxan-Induced Hyperglycemic Rats

The study investigated the hypoglycemic effects of shallot extract (Allium ascalonicum) on alloxan-induced hyperglycemic mice. The experiment involved Swiss albino mice, which were divided into four groups: a negative control (distilled water), a positive control (metformin 250mg/kg), and two treatment groups with shallot extract at doses of 500mg/kg and 1,000mg/kg. The hyperglycemic model had a 70% success rate. Results showed that both doses of shallot extract significantly reduced blood glucose levels compared to the negative control, with effects comparable to the positive control. The study concluded that shallot extract effectively lowers blood glucose levels in this model.
