TLDR Homemade skin products can cause allergic reactions, so use registered products if you have allergies.
Homemade topical preparations, often perceived as safer due to their natural ingredients, can cause hypersensitivity reactions such as contact allergic dermatitis and photosensitivity, particularly when using herbs from the Compositae family and Mediterranean aromatic herbs. Despite being strong sensitizers, reported cases are few, partly due to diagnostic challenges and testing risks. Patients with allergies or dermatoses should use registered products, and management involves stopping exposure and using topical corticosteroids, with systemic corticosteroids for severe cases.
