TLDR Copaiba oil and multivitamin emulsion can effectively treat allergic dermatitis in donkeys caused by Culicoides bites.
This study examined allergic dermatitis in Pêga breed donkeys in the Amazon biome, Pará, Brazil, caused by Culicoides bites. Among the donkeys studied, 17 exhibited symptoms such as alopecia, itching, and skin lesions. Histological analysis confirmed moderate dermatitis. The study collected 378 Culicoides insects, identifying Culicoides ocumarensis as prevalent. Hematological analysis showed affected donkeys had higher leukocyte, neutrophil, and lymphocyte counts, but lower eosinophil counts. Treatment with copaiba oil and a multivitamin emulsion showed promise in reducing inflammation and promoting hair regrowth. The research underscores the impact of Culicoides bites on donkey health and suggests potential therapeutic benefits of the treatment.
